As we move closer to our 40th founding anniversary on September 26, we invite you to get to know the PIDS a bit more. Each day from August 18 to our anniversary day, we'll feature some interesting facts about the Institute—a total of 40 Things (You Just Might Not Know) About PIDS.
40 Things (You Just Might Not Know) About PIDS (28/40): Outstanding Book Award
In 2007, a PIDS publication received the Outstanding Book Award from the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST). Winning the Water War: Watersheds, Water Policies and Water Institutions, co-published by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development in 2004, focused on the water crisis and how it is aggravated by a flawed governance of water resources. It was edited by Agnes C. Rola, Herminia A. Francisco, and Jennifer P.T. Liguton.
This was the second time that a PIDS publication received the NAST Outstanding Book Award. Poverty, Growth, and the Fiscal Crisis first received the NAST Outstanding Book Award in 1997. This book, co-published by the International Development Research Centre in 1993, was written by Emmanuel S. De Dios and Associates. It delved into the question on whether and how poverty could be alleviated significantly and in a sustained manner.
