The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), in partnership with the Philippines Communication Society (PCS), will hold a joint online research forum on November 13, 2025 (Thursday), from 9:00 to 11:30 AM via Zoom.

The webinar will feature two complementary studies that examine the evolving landscape of Philippine media—from industry competition and ownership patterns to the growing role of digital platforms in shaping political discourse and public opinion.

The first study, Analysis of the Competition Landscape of Philippine Mass Media”, by PIDS Senior Research Fellow Dr. Ramonette Serafica and Research Specialist Ms. Queen Cel Oren, examines the size and distribution of the Philippine media sector, identifies barriers to competition and growth, and explores the effects of emerging technologies.

Complementing this is the study Digital Public Pulse: Mapping the Digital Landscape of Philippine Politics,” authored by Dr. Jon Benedik Bunquin and Ms. Fatima Gaw from the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman and published in the PCS Review. The research explored the digital landscape of the 2022 Philippine general elections across major social media platforms.

Expert discussants will offer insights on the findings, focusing on their implications for media policy, industry development, and the public’s access to accurate and diverse information.

Interested participants may register at https://bit.ly/pidsevent111325. The event will also be livestreamed on the PIDS, SERP-P, and PCS Facebook pages.
