A PIDS study found that about half of Filipino families are at risk of becoming poor if the government fails to put the needed interventions. Shocks, such as disasters, inflation, income loss, conflicts, and wars, are some of the factors that can drive more families into poverty. The study highlighted the importance of managing risks systematically, particularly in terms of building risk resilience through social protection, to address Filipinos’ vulnerability to income poverty.
