The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), organized a policy dialogue on the "Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific 2019", which is the annual flagship publication of the ESCAP.

The policy dialogue aimed to discuss the outcomes of the Survey 2019, as well as major development issues confronting the Philippines and available options to address them. National policymakers, researchers, and members of the academe from Manila were invited to attend.

In addition to assessing the economic conditions and near-term economic growth prospects of the Asia-Pacific region, the Survey 2019 also highlighted the overall economic progress of the region in the past decades. The Survey 2019 likewise discussed a pathway toward development that is more people-centered and ecologically sustainable, which is in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
