The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) held a Pulong Saliksikan on “Poverty impacts of changes in the price of agricultural commodities: recent evidence for Argentina (an ex-ante analysis)” on 10 December 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Room 208 of the NEDA sa Makati Bldg., 106 Amorsolo St., Legaspi Village, Makati City.

The research presentation was given by Prof. German Calfat of the University of Antwerp, Institute of Development Policy and Management, Belgium.

Prof. Calfat`s presentation focused on the effect of the recent increase in the prices of agricultural commodities on the low- and medium-low income groups in Argentina. He presented ex-ante evidence to show that despite reaping the benefits of rising prices at the macro level, the increase in the prices of agricultural commodities can negatively affect poor households. Calculated welfare losses are between 5.5 percent and 10 percent of their initial household expenditures.
