The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) will hold a public seminar on "Disaster Risk Reduction in the Philippines: Challenges and Ways Forward" on June 20, 2018, from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm, at the PIDS Conference Room, 18th Floor, Three Cyberpod Centris North Tower, EDSA corner Quezon Avenue, Quezon City.

The seminar will feature two research papers namely, "Public Expenditure and Institutional Review of DRRM in the Philippines" by PIDS Senior Research Fellow Sonny Domingo and "Coping with Disasters due to Natural Hazards: Evidence from the Philippines" by Dr. Majah-Leah Ravago of the University of the Philippines School of Economics.

Dr. Domingo will present the results of his assessment on the existing structure, functions, and overall operations of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, including the distribution of DRRM resources among concerned national agencies and to local governments in the country. 

Dr. Ravago, on the other hand, will discuss the outcomes of the survey conducted by her team about the coping strategies and various risk management practices of local government units (LGUs) that help them recover during disasters.
