The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), in partnership with the Congressional Policy and Budget Research Department (CPBRD) of the House of Representatives (HOR), will hold a Knowledge Sharing Forum on the Assessment of the Rice Tariffication Law (RA 11203) and Free Irrigation Service Act (RA 10969) on November 27, 2019, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM, at the Speaker Montilla Hall, SWA, House of Representatives, Quezon City.

The first paper will discuss the immediate consequences of the implementation of the Rice Tariffication Law. It will also show the outcome of the simulation analysis conducted to measure the long-term impact of rice liberalization on both producers and consumers.

The second study will provide an initial assessment of the effects of the Free Irrigation Service Act to poor farmers. It will tackle the operational issues of the law and provide policy recommendations to address these issues.

Dr. Roehlano Briones, senior research fellow at PIDS, will serve as resource person.

This seminar is part of the Institute’s regular seminar series in Congress.

Due to the limited seating capacity of the venue, the forum is by invitation only.

We invite everyone to tune in to PIDS Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/PIDS.PH) on November 27, 2019, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., for the livestream of the event.
