The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) will hold a virtual launch for its newest book titled “Revitalizing Philippine Irrigation: A Systems and Governance Assessment for the 21st Century", on January 28, 2021, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, via Cisco Webex.

The book is a compilation of various studies about the country’s irrigation system by esteemed authors from various organizations. Particularly, the book evaluated the government’s irrigation development program, covering both national and communal systems, as well as various program considerations, such as water resource assessment, government issues, and recent policy shifts (e.g., Free Irrigation Service Act), among others. Essentially, it offers a set of recommendations from this assessment to help the government pursue reforms toward cost-effective irrigation sector development.

PIDS Senior Research Fellow Roehlano Briones, as the volume editor, will provide the synthesis and key messages of the book.

Department of Agriculture Secretary William Dar and Senate Committee on Agriculture Chairperson Senator Cynthia Villar were invited as keynote and closing speakers, respectively.

International Rice Research Institute Director-General Dr. Jean Balié and Federation of Free Farmers National Manager Raul Montemayor will join as Discussants/Reactors.

An e-copy of the book may be downloaded here: https://www.pids.gov.ph/publications/7189.
