In cooperation with the local government of this city, Departments of Agriculture and Social Welfare and Development, and SM City San Jose del Monte, the Kabalikat Sa Kabuhayan (KSK) a total of 201 farmers in 54 barangays in this City were able to finish the 12-week lecture and hands-on technological training.
The graduation ceremony that was held at the event center at SM City here last Saturday was graced by Senator Cynthia Villar, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, who emphasized the importance of mechanization in farming.
The senator stressed that studies by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies showed that one of the causes of non-competitiveness of our farmers is lack of mechanization.
“We are solving the root of the problem, which is the lack of technology, lack of mechanization, lack of financial literacy, and lack of ability to access social credit” Villard said
The participants learned not only how to produce high value crops but also the business and management side of farming and in 12 weeks season-long hard work and effort were able to harvest high value fruits and vegetables provided by the SM Foundation Inc. and HarBest Agribusiness Corporation – training provider.
The Harvest Festival was held at Villar Sipag Farm School in San Jose Del Monte. After harvesting, the KSK participants were divided into four groups and compete in friendly parlor games and cooking competition using their produced high-value vegetables.
